Word Coding Decoding - Mixed

INTRODUCTION: For conveying secret messages from one place to another, especially in Defence Service, coding is used. The codes are based on various principles or patterns such that the message can be easily be deciphered at the other end. Now-a-days, in certain competitive examinations, such questions are given to judge the candidates inelligence and mental ability. They are required to encode and decode words and sentences after observing the pattern and principles involved.

Mixed Coding (Letters + Digits) :   Mixed coding takes the pattern of coding with both the letters of alphabets and numbers. We have to analyse the pattern of then use the rule to code the given word.

Illustration:  If in certain coding pattern  1 C T 5 D stands for ACTED and D1T5D stands for DATED, how will you code FADED?

A.  6A4ED      B. FA45D               C. F1D5D             D. F145D

Answer: C

Solution: According to the alphabetical order, A = 1, B = 2 and C =3, so on.  Hence,on analysing the code we see that the vowels have been replaced with the numerical position in the alphabet. So A and E have been replaced with 1 and 5, because the numerical position for A is 1 and for E is 5. Hence FACED has been coded as F1D5D. So the correct Option is C

Illustration : If A - 3 - T - 5 - D stands for ACTED and E - 1 - T - 9 - N - 7 stands for EATING, ACID can be coded as _____________.

A.   A 3 I 4             B.  1 C I D          C.   A 3 9 D            D.   A 3 4 1

Answer: A.

Solution: According to the alphabetical order, A = 1, B = 2 and C =3, so on.  Hence,on analysing the code we see that the aiphabets at the even position in the word have been replaced by their numerical position in the alphabet. So in the first word C and E have been replaced with 3 and 5 and in the second word A I and G have been replaced with 1, 9 and 7 . So in ACID as C and D are at the even position in the word they been replaced with 3 and 4. Hence ACID has been coded as A3I4. So the correct Option is A

Illustration:  Decode  A 9 D 9 N 7

A.A I D I N 7                 B. A I 4 I N G              C.    A I D I N G            D.      1 I D I N G

Solution: According to the alphabetical order, A = 1, B = 2 and C =3, so on. we see that every alternate alphabet in the word has been code by its position in the alphabet set.So 9 is replaced with I as the position of I is 9 and G has been replaced with 7 because the position of G is 7  Hence, we can decode A 9 d 9 N 7  as A I D I N G. The correct option is C
